India: the first breakthrough of T-48 Project in 2019Lombardi responsible for the design of ventilation, illumination, communication and fire protection



Almost 9 years after starting activities in T-48 Project with the technical bid, 6 years after the commencement of the construction and with the 2nd appointed Civil Contractor, the first breakthrough of T-48 tunnel occurred on April 30th, 2019 between the drives of Sumber (North Portal) and Kohli (Adit 2), connecting the two portals distanced 3.3km.

Lombardi Engineering Ltd (in Joint Venture with SNC-Lavalin) was appointed on January 2011 as Detailed Design Consultant, 3D monitoring and Construction Supervision, by IRCON International Limited on behalf of Government of India, for the Tunnel T-48 Project under the Dharam-Qazigund section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla New Railway Project (USBRL) in the indian state of Jammu & Kashmir.

The USBRL constitutes one of the most important railway projects under construction in India and reveals as a strategic investment for the accessibility between the Indian railway network and the valley of Kashmir.
